I have just completed a review of a new booklet published at the expense of an admirer of the Great Marquis of Montrose, Phinella Henderson of London, England. It is entitled “Contemporary Images of James Graham, Fifth Earl and First Marquis of Montrose.”

The book includes many portraits and copies of portraits of the Great Marquis and provides the reader with an image of this great son of Scotland seen in the eyes of his comtemporaries. It also includes descriptions of events that took place while the portraits may have been painted with notes and acknowledgements.

I found it delightful and I recommend it to anybody who also admires the man and his actions during the civil war in Scotland. It is a bargain and can be purchased for only $7 which includes mailing. Phinella will give all the proceeds from these sales to the First Marquis of Montrose Society, another worthwhile Society devoted to the Great Marquis.
