NEWS AND FEATURES

Announcements

Due to our failure to find an editor for the Clan Graham News you will have undoubtedly noticed that the scheduled April Edition did not appear. Richard Graham and I have decided that we would write our usual few paragraphs and ask our Webmaster, Brandon Key to post them. It's not the same as the newsletter but we hope it will suffice until we find a volunteer to take over the editors job. If you are interested or know of anyone who might interested in volunteering, please contact me. We understand that following Ekena Parkinson as the Editor might be a rather daunting prospect but she has generously promised to help her successor work through the start up phase. We certainly miss her but the good news is that she will continue to edit and publish an annual print edition. Don't expect every year to be as great as the 40Th Anniversary Edition last year but if Ekena edits it we will be sure of an outstanding result.

While the Editorship may be our most pressing need at this time, we have a number of vacant posts that are very important as well. I recently was advised that our long standing loyal Society Secretary, Michele Graham will not be running for re-election this year due to her pressing work schedule. We all owe Michele our gratitude for helping to to keep the Clan Graham Society running smoothly and efficiently. If you are interested in becoming the Secretary of our Society please contact Alan Graham, the chair of the nominating committee.*

We are looking for a replacement for Nellie Graham Lowry, our Society genealogist who has been patiently waiting for someone with the skills and interest to take on this responsibility. Please contact Nellie if you would like to fill this important position.**

I want to announce that a new member, William Cooper has agreed to serve as the Canadian genealogist for the Clan Graham Society. Bill has already met with Nellie and has begun to work on behalf of our Canadian members. It is a double welcome to Bill, welcome to the CGS and welcome as the Canadian genealogist.

The Clan Graham Society Council has voted to purchase a Memorial Stone that will be placed at the main entrance to the Grandfather Mountain Games field at MacRae Meadows. I will be posting more about how you can donate towards this in the near future. There is a historic significance of these games and location in that the Clan Graham Society was conceived of and established at Grandfather Mountain in 1975.

We have about 100 additional copies of the 40Th Anniversary Edition of the Clan Graham News that Ekena so ably produced and we will be making these available by two ways 1) They will be purchased by mail and 2) A number will be available at the AGM at Loon Mountain, New Hampshire in September. An announcement giving the details will be on the CGS Website soon.

Our Society is a relative newcomer to social media but thanks to the hard work of Keith Richter our Social Media Editor we now have over 600 members on the Clan Graham Society Int'l FaceBook site, many of whom are not yet members of the CGS. Keith reports that there are now members from South Africa, Sweden, France, Scotland, Australia, England and other parts of the world and that numerous new Society members have responded to the invitation that is periodically posted to join the CGS. Please check out our busy site on FaceBook.

Finally, I want to encourage everyone who can to attend the Annual General Meeting this September. David and Jane Graham have planned a exciting time and the New Hampshire Highland Games & Festival at Loon Mountain promise to be spectacular. Please remember to bring your finest donations for the Mugdock Auction.

On March 29, 2016, surrounded by his family, our beloved Wayne Graeme Erickson, "Grandpa E," was reunited with his forever sweetheart.

Wayne was born July 11, 1933 in Salt Lake City, on his mother's birthday, to Angus Eugene Erickson and Ruth Graeme.

He graduated from South High in 1951.
Wayne and Mary Ellen Gardner were married on December 20, 1952 in Elko, Nevada and they shared over 60 years of marital bliss.

Wayne worked for Utah Power and Light until he retired in 1985. He remains a member of the IBEW.
Wayne loved his family and his Scottish heritage. He was a member of Clan Graham and the St. Andrews Society. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, rock hounding and was a member of the Nuts Club. Wayne is survived by his brother Lamar (Bill) Eugene Erickson, his four children Guy Eugene (Barbara), Vickie Lynn Downs (Tim), Kevin Lee and Lorie Lee Mair, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Wayne chose to donate his body to the University of Utah Body Donor Program, as did his wife and other family members.
